The rise of globalisation, environmental degradation, and failed economic development has increasingly feminised poverty despite an unprecedented number of women entering the paid workforce. Yet, The Shape of Water rejects traditional views of women as passive victims by presenting accounts of powerful, imaginative and visionary women confronting the destructive development of their communities with new cultures and a passion for change.
